How it works

Headsets like the Lightspeed Zulu 4 can send everything you hear, intercom and radio, to your phone over the standard Bluetooth call channel. TowerOwl records that channel. Nothing proprietary, nothing to plug in.

1

Flip one switch

On the Zulu 4, set DIP switch 6 (“Record Comm”) ON. Pair the headset with your phone for calls and media.

2

Tap Record

TowerOwl records to small AAC files (about 14 MB per hour), keeps going with the screen off, and marks headset drop-outs and phone calls automatically.

3

Replay and debrief

Missed a clearance? Replay the last 30 seconds into your headset without stopping. After the flight: bookmarks, notes, share, export.

Built for the cockpit

Instant replay into the headset

Last 10 s to 5 min, with pause and scrub, while the recording continues.

Bookmarks

Tap to mark a moment, label it, jump to it later. Also from the notification.

Crash-safe recording

Audio is written to disk every few seconds. A dead battery loses almost nothing.

Scratchpad

Draw clearances and diagrams with finger or stylus. Dark mode for night flying.

Library

Play with seek, rename, add notes, share, export with a bookmark list.

Wired input for any headset

Bose, David Clark and older Lightspeed models work through a recorder adapter (Pro).

Questions

Which headsets work?

Lightspeed Zulu 4 over Bluetooth (verified). Delta Zulu is being verified. Bose A20/A30, David Clark ONE-X and older Lightspeed models send only the boom mic over Bluetooth; use Wired input with a recorder adapter. See the headset pages.

Does it need an iPhone or an iPad?

No. TowerOwl is Android-only and needs no other device. Lightspeed's own recorder app is iOS-only.

Can I still hear my EFB alerts?

While recording, this phone's media plays through the headset in phone-call quality. The Zulu 4 connects to two devices, so run your EFB on a tablet and record with the phone.

What about my passengers?

Recording the intercom records them. In many countries everyone on the intercom must agree. Tell them.

Is it affiliated with Lightspeed or Bose?

No. TowerOwl is made by Ameria AG and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Lightspeed Aviation or Bose. Product names are used to describe compatibility only.
